Former officer sings hymns of God with parrot on shoulder in eastern India

In an unusual turn of events, a former DSP officer in eastern India’s Jharkhand is seen singing hymns of God with a parrot perched on his shoulder.

The incident took place in the Giridih district on April 26.

The video showed the former DSP officer of Bihar reciting hymns of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita with the parrot sitting on his shoulder. The officer is dressed in saffron-coloured clothes. The officer very gently rubs his hand over the parrot as well while singing praises of the Lord.

Four years ago, former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey transitioned into storytelling and earned the title of Jagatguru Ramanujacharya. Originally from Geruaband, a village in Bihar’s Buxar district lacking basic amenities like electricity and education, Pandey pursued his education against the odds. Graduating from Patna University, he later became an IPS officer in 1987, serving in various capacities including SP in multiple Bihar districts and IG in Tirhut division.

Despite aspirations for political office, Pandey faced setbacks, withdrawing his VRS application twice after failing to secure Lok Sabha and assembly tickets. Eventually retiring from politics, he embraced spiritual pursuits, particularly Bhagwat bhajans, and actively advocated against alcohol consumption during Bihar’s liquor ban in 2015. In 2023, he was conferred the title of Jagatguru Ramanujacharya, continuing his devotion to Bhagwat bhajans and spreading spiritual awareness across Bihar and neighboring states like Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
