Rahul Gandhi set to amplify workers’ voices during Patna protest over Labour Code on July 9

At a press conference held on Monday, it was announced that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Patna on Wednesday to participate in a “chakka jam” protest. The demonstration is aimed at opposing the newly introduced labour code as well as the special intensive revision of electoral rolls currently underway in Bihar.

The event was addressed by key leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar, AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, and representatives from various Left parties.

Rajesh Kumar stated that Rahul Gandhi, who now serves as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will actively take part in the protest being held in the state capital. A march to the Election Commission’s office in Patna has been planned as part of the event.

Tejashwi Yadav emphasized that while Gandhi’s presence will be in Patna, the movement will span across the entire state. He reiterated the bloc’s support for the statewide “chakka jam,” calling the labour code a direct threat to democratic values, just like the ongoing revision of the voter lists.

Yadav went on to express deep concern over the way the electoral roll revision is being handled. According to him, the process, which is scheduled for completion within a month, has already been plagued by widespread confusion and irregularities. He accused the Election Commission of deliberately aiding the ruling NDA coalition, led by the BJP, through this hurried revision effort.

INDIA bloc leaders underscored their collective demand for transparency, fairness, and democratic integrity, stressing that both the labour code and the voter roll updates are critical issues that warrant public mobilization and national attention.
