Amit Shah suggests NDA campus as suitable space to honour Peshwa Bajirao’s enduring valor

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday unveiled an equestrian statue of Peshwa Bajirao I at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, marking a significant tribute to the iconic Maratha leader.

Following the unveiling, Shah remarked that NDA was the most fitting location for such a memorial, as it is the premier institution responsible for nurturing India’s future military leaders. He emphasized the symbolic importance of placing Peshwa Bajirao’s statue at a campus dedicated to military training and strategy.

Reflecting on India’s history, Shah stated, “Had Shivaji Maharaj not initiated the struggle for freedom, which was carried forward for a century by the Peshwas, the very foundation of our country might not have survived.” He credited Peshwa Bajirao and the Maratha legacy for preserving India’s cultural and political fabric during turbulent times.

During his one-day visit to Pune, Shah also inaugurated the Jairaj Sports and Convention Centre. He is scheduled to visit Balasaheb Deoras Hospital in Kondhwa and lay the foundation stone for the PHRC Health City, further extending his engagement with developmental initiatives in the city.

Speaking further about Peshwa Bajirao, Shah noted that the legendary warrior accomplished extraordinary feats within his brief lifespan of 40 years, creating a legacy that remains unparalleled in Indian history.

In anticipation of Shah’s visit, several educational institutions located along his route made adjustments to their schedules. To avoid disruptions due to traffic diversions and road closures, many schools declared a holiday, opted for half-day sessions, or shifted to online classes to minimize inconvenience to students and staff.

As part of his NDA visit, the Home Minister is also expected to engage with cadets at the Cadet Mess, offering them an opportunity for direct interaction with one of the nation’s top leaders. This interaction is seen as a motivational moment for cadets training to become future officers of the Indian Armed Forces.
